Books and Stuff Displays

Limited Edition Pieces: Black Cherry, Black Walnut, Maple and timbers available by request

Description: Eastern Rock Maple example

Traditional bookcases tend to be rectilinear and quite boring. For a long time the idea of creating an artistic bookcase (oops I meant ‘six shelf inclined books and stuff display) that isn’t exactly traditional has intrigued me…

The piece standing before you has been handcrafted from a book-matched set of highly figured Eastern rock maple (Acer saccharum) boards that exhibit a terrific mix of complex and tigered figure (also known as fiddleback figure) throughout as well as exceptional chatoyance (opalescence reminiscent of looking into a cat’s eyes). The design incorporates numerous places to display the special memories of your life and angle of lean sufficient to enable books to be held without book ends.

The piece has been hand finished with a durable finish to highlight the natural color and protect the beautiful character of the maple while giving the piece a warm feeling to the touch. This character will intensify over time, as maple darkens and the grain tends to gain more three-dimensional depth as it ages.

As with all of his wood art pieces the title of the piece, creation date and artist information has been permanently stamped on the piece. This piece has been entered in the artist’s permanent registry.

Note that the design supports a recommended weight not to exceed eight pounds per each of the lower three shelves; five pounds per each of the upper three helves.

Dimensions: 22-1/2 inches in width (overall), 11 inches in depth, 56-3/4 inches in height
